Abstract: This book, developed for grades 4 to 9, describes how students can synthesize research without copying the information, providing activities to develop this skill. The intent of this book is to encourage students to think critically about what they read and about how they can use that information when conducting research. The book recognizes four modes of thinking and then matches research activities to types of students who reflect that mode. Types include the 'thinker,' the 'mover,' the 'nurturer,' and the 'creator.' In one activity, which appeals to 'movers' and 'nurturers,' students complete research and report about an important day or time in history as if they were the central characters. In addition, one section of the book supplies a research topic for every day of the year from September through May. Black-and-white cartoons supplement the text. Thirty copies of each page may reproduced and distributed. (Author/ALK)
