Abstract: This activity book, for students in grades 1-2, offers math enrichment activities to develop logic and reasoning skills while building self-confidence and understanding of mathematics. These brief weekly challenges intend to develop creative and flexible mathematics problem-solving skills. Presented on blackline masters, each of the 25 activity sheets contain six problems for first grade and eight problems for second grade. A wide range of topics in this book include measurement, computation, and spatial reasoning. The difficulty level for each problem, based on a 1-4 scale, is noted and answers are included.
One first grade activity challenges students with such activities as counting the corners of various polygons, recording the results of flipping a coin ten times, and choosing the appropriate unit of measure to find the length of a classroom. Problems also include adding quantities of fruit, completing the drawing of a pencil to make it 13 centimeters long, and making a list of all possible two-digit numbers using three given different digits.
