Abstract: This CD-ROM provides users with a virtual laboratory in which to perform lab tests on microbial unknowns. Given a previous understanding of how to work in a microbiology lab, students can perform a number of tests on their unknown organism, including gram stain, glucose fermentation, and motility tests. Tools that would be available in most microbiology labs are available in this virtual lab. The site also contains incubation chambers with variable temperature settings, along with different types of media on which to grow the microbes of interest. When presented with a new unknown, students are also given a brief case study to assist in identifying the unknown microbe. Upon completion of the assignments in the program, students are able to submit their results to a registered server or print off their results in a hard copy format. (Author/MTL)
