Abstract:
This CD-ROM provides the user with family health information and links to health information through the Internet. The units on the disc are introduced by video of people pointing out and verbally explaining the features. Color line drawings and photographs illustrate health issues. Each unit is divided into sections that contain text. The four units include general, family search, and online. The general section contains information on growth and development, how to stay healthy, and how to prevent disease. The human life cycle is described in age periods from newborn to later years. First aid information is provided for many situations including bites, poison emergencies, and bleeding emergencies. The user can set up a personal profile in the family unit. They can use this profile to keep track of family medical information and this information can be saved onto a floppy disc or printed. If people have specific symptoms, they can use a series of dichotomous questions to arrive at the special health issues they should consider. Questions that are common to specific age groups are answered concerning physical, psychological, and social health concerns. Seaches can be performed, using this disc, to find words or phrases, parts of the anatomy, or diseases. The user can also look in the dictionary with the search button or find the definitions of terms that are highlighted in the text. Sidebar issues are additionally highlighted and give more in depth information. The online button leads to technical support and online services. The Mayo Clinic Health Letter can be accessed here.
