Abstract:
This CD-ROM, one of a series designed for post secondary education, is a multimedia tutorial that introduces students to the physiology of the kidney and nephron. INTERACTIVE PHYSIOLOGY is a series of interactive CD-ROM modules, one CD per body system, designed to clarify the most complex physiological processes in an undergraduate anatomy and physiology course. The first part of the CD-ROM reviews the gross anatomy and blood flow through the kidney, the microscopic structures of the nephron, and the various epithelia that line the renal tubules. The second part explains glomerular filtration, reabsorption, and secretion as well as endocrine and nervous system regulation mechanisms. Each lesson begins with an anatomy review followed by animations that show physiological processes on the cell and molecular level. The animations relate physiological functions with graphical representations and can be paused, stepped through, or repeated to make it easier to comprehend processes that change over time. The CD-ROM also contains self quizzes that test mastery and ask students to make predictions, alter variables, and measure responses. Additional features include an on screen glossary, links to review material and textbook correlations, a book marking function, and a Virtual Professor that reinforces key topics. (Author/LCT)
