Abstract: This card game, designed for Kindergarten students, is played by grouping piggy face cards marked with nickels and pennies into sets that equal five cents. The game provides practice in finding the different ways groups of five objects can be formed. The game set contains instructions for play, reproducible colored playing pieces in the shape of pink, piggy faces, and directions on how to construct the playing pieces. The teacher must cut out the piggy faces and glue paper coins (provided) on the backs of the piggy face cards. The cards are dealt evenly to all players. The first player turns up the top card on her pile; if it shows either five pennies or a nickel she can put it in her bank. For any other number she must discard into the middle of the table face up. The next player who does not turn up a five can draw from the discard pile to find a card to bring his total to five. The winner is the person who saves the most money in her bank. The game is from the YOUNG CHILDREN CONTINUE TO REINVENT ARITHMETIC by C. Kamii. (Author/JRS)
