Abstract: This curriculum model, developed for grades 9 to 12, describes a competency based education program written by the Indiana Department of Education. The curriculum, intended to serve as the core curriculum for both college preparatory and technology preparatory students, calls for six high school credits in science. Two of these credits are to come from Biology; two from Chemistry or Physics; with the final two coming from Chemistry, Physics, Earth and Space Sciences, or a second year of Biology, Chemistry, or Physics. The goals of the curriculum concern the students' ability to engage in scientific inquiry; their understanding of the intellectual, social, and career implications of science and technology; and their knowledge of the unifying principles of each discipline. This document lists and describes performance objectives and sample assessment items and also includes the use of computer interfaces, word processing, data bases, spread sheets and simulations.
