Abstract: This article from the Mathematics Teacher is meant for use by advanced placement calculus teachers. The article is intended to be helpful for novice mathematics teachers, but could be used by math teachers of various levels. It consists of a brief explanation and an activity sheet. In the explanation, the author suggests that teachers give their students a copy of the activity sheet to complete as the first activity of the course. The activity sheet contains 24 true or false algebra statements. The intention is that students discover that all of the relationships listed are false and a discussion follows on common student misconceptions in algebra. (Author/KFR)
